A global environment with substance

English is often used in internal meetings. But more than that, I think the most global aspect of RESTAR is the diversity of opinions and ideas that each member has. Because employees come from all parts of the world, there is often a diversity of ideas without being biased by any one idea. I believe this is a great strength of RESTAR, a global environment that is not limited to superficial language use.

Our goal is the world

"RESTAR's goal is not to be listed on the Japanese market, but to become a global company. To achieve this, it is of course important to improve our products and services, but it is also important to have the qualities to win in a global environment.
It is simple, but I believe that if you are proactive enough to actively express your opinions and make new proposals within a flat company like RESTAR, you have the qualities of a global talent."

Global Team Environment

Our engineering team is very international. I think one of RESTAR's strengths is that we are able to gather talented people not only from Japan but also from all over the world because we are not restricted by where we work. Most of the team members, including myself from the U.K., are of foreign nationalities, such as American and French. Most of the meetings are conducted in English, so even if your Japanese is not perfect, you will not feel stressed.

Mutual understanding is of utmost importance.

Even when Japanese employees are present, we sometimes speak in English, but when we want to convey detailed nuances, we sometimes speak in Japanese. The reverse is also true. For those who cannot speak Japanese perfectly, we try to avoid misunderstandings by communicating accurately in English.

Understanding Diversity

At the root of this is an understanding of diversity. Ideally, everyone should be able to speak one language at the same level, but in reality it is difficult. I believe that communication is possible when we respect each other.

Full remote work from Kobe

I travel to Tokyo several times a month to visit the Shinagawa head office or to visit clients, but other than that I work from home. By taking advantage of the full remote work system, I am able to work without any hindrance even if I am not close enough to Tokyo to travel there immediately. Other team members, regardless of where they live, are also expected to work remotely, so I have never felt any difficulty in communicating with them.

Hybrid Communication

We have offsites where all employees can participate, such as going out to eat with members who are in the office that day, so we are able to deepen relationships both in person and online. We also have "#Zatsudan (chat)" and "#random" chat rooms where people can chat and share what they are interested in, making it easier to interact by promoting casual communication as well.

Culture permeated with diversity

I think one of the company's attractions is that diversity is realized not superficially but as a reality. The engineering team is the very embodiment of such diversity. In addition to nationality, we are diverse in terms of age and experience, and our culture is flat, in the positive sense of the word. Roles are assigned to individuals based on their skills and abilities, so I feel that this is an environment where it is easy to fully demonstrate one's strengths.

Everyday working in Fukuoka

My daily schedule varies depending on the project. Basically, we have daily meetings to share the day's progress, and the rest of the time is devoted to development work. Although I work fully remotely, I have visited the office several times and interacted with other members at those times. Although our work is completely online, we have a culture that values offline connections as well.

Teamwork is the key

This is an environment where teamwork is easy to create as we sometimes conduct reviews of other members' tasks. If there are members who are relatively inexperienced in development, we will proactively set up touch points so that they can work as a team in a creative way to avoid long periods of neglect. In anticipation of a further increase in the number of members in the future, we are now in the process of preparing manuals for each task so that the work does not become idiosyncratic.

An environment for continued growth

I feel that the fact that we are an early-stage startup is very attractive. It is very interesting to be in the trial-and-error phase, where everyone is working together to build up the company, and it is challenging because of the large impact I can have. I would like to continue to grow myself in an environment where the company continues to grow.

Balancing Childcare and Work

My wife and I both work so we leave our child at daycare during the day. I start work every morning at 9:00 a.m. and leave work around 5:00 p.m. to take the children home and do housework. Once I finish work, I pick up and drop off my children, take care of household chores, and return to work around 8:00 p.m. to put in a few more hours after that to finish the day.

Work plan designs for everyone

My teammates understand my working hours, so they basically contact me when I am online, except for urgent customer service. Since there is no work that requires me to go to the office at this time, I can work on my own time based on customer appointments. I think this environment is made possible by the high morale of each person who is committed to the company.

Environment and People for Growth

I think the direction of the company is very appealing: it does not simply favor flashy business development, but rather steadily grasps potential customer needs and grows while keeping a constant watch on the world. I was the second employee to join the company after its founding, and that atmosphere remains the same today; the strong sense of professionalism of the CEO and other members of management is a motivating factor for me.

Shorter working hours

Basically, each employee manages his or her own schedule, taking into account home circumstances and other factors. In my case, I am currently working shorter hours because I have three children.

Why I chose RESTAR

One of the reasons I decided to join RESTAR was the ease with which I could maintain a work-life balance. Considering the stage of life I am in now, I have a strong desire to balance my career and family, and RESTAR's corporate culture accepted my desire to do my best at both.

A "good" flatness permeates the environment.

"Being a woman" or "having shortened working hours" is not an obstacle in my career. I am deeply motivated by the fact that I am entrusted with work according to my abilities. The fact that I can continue to work flexibly while changing my working style is very attractive to me, even when considering my long-term career.

High tolerance for new things

The company is committed to considering its employees and updating its internal systems promptly when necessary. The management is very understanding of diverse work styles, and I appreciate the environment in which I can easily ask for advice.
